URBAN FARM HUT
God’s Vineyard is a small urban farm behind a church in the Garden District of New Orleans. Owner-Operator Earl Antwine grows peppers there to make his 7-pepper hot sauce, which is bottled and sold locally. All proceeds from the sales go toward youth mentorship programs for at-risk boys in the neighborhood.
In my third year I joined up with a small group of architecture students, all of us mildly disillusioned with a curriculum that had thus far been purely conceptual. All thought and no action.
Through a couple NOLA-based alumni we met Earl and asked if there was an opportunity for a design-build project in the garden. He told us he could use a place to store tools, sit with friends, and grill out in the summer.
Over a couple months' time we raised money and came up with a design for the site. That spring we built what we'd settle on deeming the 'Urban Farm Hut'.
